Bulldog Broadcast Judge Parent Email: August 11, 2016

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

The school year is upon us! We are entering our 96th year of providing a rigorous and faith-filled education to the children of Utah. We appreciate the trust you have in our teachers to provide the care and guidance throughout the year. Our faculty is recharged and ready to deliver.

We are entering the Twentieth Week of Ordinary Time. Throughout this week the Gospel readings focus on charity and service. The ease of a camel passing through the eye of needle prompts many of the listeners to reflect upon their own devotion to charity. This call for charity and service will continue to be a part of our school’s mission throughout the year.

The new student orientation will take place on Friday, August 12. There are many wonderful people helping to make this a memorable day for our incoming students. We look forward to welcoming the students as they begin their high school experience with us.

On Saturday, August 13 at 10:00am, we are excited to welcome you to our “Red and Gold” football game. This intra-squad game has been a tradition at Judge Memorial for half a century and has always been a great way to start the year.

Monday is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Saturday is the Remembrance of Saint Bernard

Peace to you and your family during this exciting time. Go Bulldogs!

Blessings,
Patrick Lambert, Principal

Students arriving at school after 8A for any reason must check in at the dean’s office before going to class. 4. HOW TO: reminders on campus safety
Entrance to the school building during school hours is restricted to the northeast doors on 1100 East. Visitors are to utilize the buzzer and identify themselves to the main office before they will be buzzed in and permitted entrance to the building. Elective class change requests will open for the first three days of each semester. A form will be available in the counseling office at that time. If a class change can be accommodated, students will be moved by the end of the first week of classes. Please keep in mind a class change may result in a student moving into a different section with a different teacher of their core classes. This may require the purchase of new textbooks. Please note that core class changes are limited to level placement (up or down) and are made in conjunction with the counselor and with the approval of the assistant principal. Students are not permitted to drop classes for free periods at anytime during the school year. Course changes due to school error will be corrected. To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

The school year is in session! It has been wonderful to see all the smiling faces of our students. The school looks great and members of the faculty are catching stride. We strive to foster continuous growth within each student.

We are entering the Twenty First Week of Ordinary Time. In this week’s readings we hear Jesus urging us to “Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.” This idea of being prepared makes us look inward and take the time for reflective examination.

Monday is the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Wednesday is the Feast of Saint Bartholomew
Saturday is the Memorial of Saint Monica

This coming Friday is the New Parent Orientation held in our cafeteria. The event will begin at 5:30pm and will end right before our first home football game. We hope you can join us for both.

On Monday evening we lost a dear friend, colleague, and teacher, Susan Monserret. Susan taught at the school over the course of the last six years. She was an instrumental member of our Theology department. We pray for the repose of her soul and for her family through this difficult time. Information regarding the funeral services can be found at:
http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/saltlaketribune/obituary.aspx?n=susan-renee-monserret&pid=181102713&fhid=23304

Please be careful during pick-up and drop-off at the school. All students should be using the crosswalk when crossing the road. Also we need to avoid double parking when picking students up or dropping them off. If dropping a student off on the other side of the road, please do so next to the crosswalk. Thank you for taking these precautionary measures. We also ask that students and parents abide by the speed limits posted throughout the neighborhood.

Monday is picture day at the school. Information packets should come home today with students. Next Wednesday, August 24, school will dismiss at 2:45. This is in order to have our shortened day on Thursday, which is Back to School Night. Classes on Thursday will dismiss at 1:35. Back to School Night begins at 6:00pm in the auditorium. Please join us for the celebration and the opportunity to meet your child’s teachers.

We will be celebrating our first school Liturgy on Thursday, August 25. Parents are more than welcome to participate. Please check in at the main office. Mass will begin at 9:30.

I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.

God bless,

Patrick Lambert

Bulldog Broadcast Judge Parent Email:  August 25, 2016

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

We are coming to the conclusion of our second week of the school year. Thank you to Father Briese for leading our first school mass this week. With joy, we celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit. Catholic academic institutions across the globe gather each year to ask for guidance and wisdom from the Holy Spirit. This tradition dates back to 1548. May the Holy Spirit strengthen each of us throughout the school year.

Twenty-Second Week of Ordinary Time

Monday is the Memorial of the Passion on Saint John the Baptist

Saturday is the Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great

Homework lab will open next week. This additional support provided by our teachers occurs in the library after school on most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Please encourage your child to utilize the support. We will also be having freshmen student council elections next week. This is a great opportunity for the students to develop their leadership skills. On Friday, September 2, we will proudly honor our military veterans at our football game. Please join us in support of our service members.

I hope you have a blessed week ahead.

My best,

Patrick Lambert

Principal

Judge Memorial Catholic High School

Bulldog Broadcast Judge Parent Email: September 1, 2016

We are coming to the conclusion of our third week in school. It has been a pleasure watching the students get settled into their classes and watching our teachers find ways to inspire a love of learning.

We are entering the Twenty-Third Week of Ordinary Time. In this week’s readings according to the Gospel of Luke we see over and over Jesus’ message urging us to not judge or condemn our neighbor. This message culminates in the saying of not looking at the splinter in somebody else’s eye when we have “wooden beam” in our own.

Thursday is the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Friday the Memorial of Saint Peter Claver

This Sunday, September 4, the "Canonization of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta" will be airing live at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Complete details can be found at: http://www.ewtn.com/motherteresa/.

The school will be closed on Monday, September 5, for Labor Day. Classes resume on Tuesday. This Friday we will honor the “Day of Prayer for Peace in Our Communities.” Our Theology department will be reflecting with a decade of the Rosary in each of their classes in the Prayer Garden. You and your family are welcome to attend.

Friday, September 9, is the Bulldog Boogie! This annual event has been a joy to watch for over thirty years. Please join us at the football game and watch as our little bulldogs create the halftime show. This is open to elementary students and the preparation begins on Monday so spread the word!

“Lord, when I hear how others praise and pray to you, giving themselves to you without reserve, I am ashamed of my own misgivings and half-heartedness. Fill me with such love for you that I may long to give myself to you too. Let the lesser loves of everyday life take their proper place in my affections, leaving you first. Here I am, Lord, body, heart, and soul. Grant that with your love I may be big enough to reach the world and small enough to be at one with you. Amen.” — Mother Teresa

My best,

Patrick Lambert
Principal
Judge Memorial Catholic High School

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam

Love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great.

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families:

There’s a new Bulldog in the House! You will notice that we are missing an important contribution to our weekly newsletter. Our Principal, Patrick Lambert and his wife, Hilary, have their hands full with the birth of their first child, James Howard Lambert. He made a grand entrance into the world early Sunday morning, September 4, weighing in at seven pounds, three ounces. James Howard is healthy and all is well with the new family! Congratulations to Patrick and Hilary, and welcome future Bulldog, James Howard!

“And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, ‘Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.’” - Mark 9:36-37

Bulldog Broadcast Judge Parent Email: September 15, 2016

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

Thank you all for the wonderful well wishes as we added another Bulldog to the Judge community last week. Hilary and I have been showered with love and support as we welcomed James Howard Lambert into the world on September 4. Both Hilary and James are happy and healthy.

We are entering the Twenty-Fifth Week of Ordinary Time. In Sunday’s Gospel reading we will hear Jesus give us his take on being trustworthy in both small, and in large matters. He connects this to being honest and making sure to make good on our promises. t is a good reminder of the importance of making honesty a part of our lifestyle.

Monday is the Memorial of Saints Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn and Paul Chŏng Ha-sang
Tuesday is the Feast of Saint Matthew
Friday is the Memorial of Saint Pius of Pietrelcina

Throughout the month of September our counseling department is putting their energy towards suicide prevention. The theme is “You Matter. You Belong.” On Thursday the counselors did a presentation for the freshmen Theology classes. On Monday, September 19, we will provide students with suicide prevention wristbands. The sit with us at lunch program will be launched shortly after, which was designed to help each student find a friendly table. The theme will be wrapped into our Liturgy on September 28. We will be introducing the SafeUT app on that same day. That evening we will be presenting a film from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at 7:00pm. The film, “More Than Sad” will be shown in our auditorium. It is free and open to our parent community, students, and the general public. Our students are incredibly precious and we will continue to work to support their safety.

Please join us on Friday night, September 16, as we welcome Judge Memorial and Saint Mary’s alumni to our Homecoming Game! The game against Stansbury High School will begin at 7:00pm. We will have a social for the alumni on the beach before the game. Please spread the word to all the bulldogs out there!

The Homecoming Dance will be held in the gymnasium on Saturday, September 17. All students are encouraged to attend. Come in a group!

Parent-teacher conferences will occur next week on Thursday, September 22. We hope that you will be able to join us. The conferences will be held in the cafeteria and in the dance studio. The meetings will go from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. This is a great opportunity to sit down with the teachers that have such a profound affect on our students.

I wish you all the best in the week ahead.

God bless,

Patrick Lambert

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

We are entering the Twenty-Sixth Week of Ordinary Time. In Sunday’s reading we hear about the rich man and Lazarus. In the story we learn how their plights in life are reversed in the afterlife. There is a lovely Irish saying that addresses this same topic: “A wealthy man will only make it through the gates of Heaven if there is a poor man at the gate whom can vouch for his generosity.” May we all embrace lifting up those in need.

Tuesday is the Memorial of Saint Vincent de Paul
Thursday is the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael
Friday is the Memorial of Saint Jerome
Saturday is the Memorial of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus

We will continue with our “You Matter. You Belong.” theme for National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The Sit With Us mobile app was launched last Tuesday at lunch. We will continue to focus on inclusion and student safety. The SafeUT app and the direct connection to the Utah Crisis Hotline will be introduced this Tuesday. Our Mass on Wednesday will carry the same message.

The Freshmen Retreat will be held on Thursday and Friday. We will also continue with our theme of giving with our Student 4 Student pickups on Monday and Friday.

I wish you all a blessed week ahead.

Yours in Faith Education,

Patrick Lambert

Directly or indirectly every student at Judge, including your child, receives tuition assistance. The true annual cost to educate a student is $2,300 more than the annual tuition individual students pay. Students 4 Students fundraiser not only helps with tuition reduction but also provides additional financial support for our academic, activities, and athletic programs. The program also instills a sense of pride and responsibility in our students, as they are able to help others by giving back to their school. http://www.judgememorial.com/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=256797&type=d&pREC_ID=612136

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

We are entering the Twenty-Seventh Week of Ordinary Time. In this week’s Gospel reading we hear the story of the Good Samaritan. This fits well with our celebration of the Memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi.

The Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.

Tuesday is the Memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi
Friday is the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary

On Monday and Friday of this week we will continue to have pickups for Students 4 Students. We are encouraging all students to embrace the charism of giving. State tournaments and region tournaments are in full swing this week. Best wishes to all of our athletes.

I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.

AMDG,

Patrick Lambert
Principal
Judge Memorial Catholic High School

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam

“Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?”
He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.”

Christmas Break: begins Dec. 22, resumes Jan. 4

As you plan your break vacations this year, we ask that you review the school calendar first. Family vacations are excused absences, not exempt. Please review pages 43 & 51 of the Student-Parent Handbook for policy details as it outlines Judge’s policy for excessive absences from class. Students who miss more than six sessions of a class, or study time, during one quarter without prior authorization from the Dean’s Office, will receive a failing grade in that class for the quarter. In order to receive authorization, a completed Planned Absence Form (available in the Main Office) must be completed and submitted to the Dean’s Office at least one week before the planned absence. A “planned absence” does not guarantee a passing grade in the class. To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

We are entering the Twenty-Eighth Week of Ordinary Time. In this Sunday’s Gospel reading we hear the story of Jesus healing ten people suffering from leprosy. After the ten were healed only one returned to say thanks. There are plenty of times where we may feel thankful in our hearts but forget to take that extra moment to let others know. With that being said, please know how thankful I am for you and for our Judge Memorial community. Thank you for being a part of this beautiful mission.

Saturday is the Memorial of Teresa of Avila

On Monday, October 10, we will have our Fall Music Concert led by Ms. Regus. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Please join us and celebrate our musicians. Thursday marks the last day of the first quarter. There is no school on Friday, October 14. We will have Student 4 Student pickups on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

This last week brought a close to our girls’ tennis season. Thank you to Coach Valentine for leading our team. Our boys’ golf team also finished their season this week. Thank you to Coach Olsen for another great year.

I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.

Yours in Faith Education,

Patrick Lambert

Bulldog Broadcast Judge Parent Email: October 13, 2016

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

We are entering the Twenty-Ninth Week of Ordinary Time. This week we will celebrate the Feast Day of one of Saint Paul’s companions, Saint Luke. Luke was born in Antioch Syria and not a member of the Jewish faith. His unique perspective, heard throughout his Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, helped to shape a universal and inclusive Catholic Church. Saint Luke the Evangelist, pray for us.

Monday is the Memorial of St. Ignatius of Antioch
Tuesday is the Feast of Saint Luke
Wednesday we remember Saint John de Brébeuf and Saint Isaac Jogues

We have made it to the end of the 1st quarter. Congratulations to our student body! Friday will be a teacher workday. Grades will be posted next week.

Congratulations to all of our students that participated in the Fall Music Concert! It was impressive. Thank you Ms. Regus for directing our choristers and musicians.

Quarter 2 begins on Monday. This is a shortened week. There will be a noon dismissal on Wednesday. Freshman and sophomores will have a regular schedule on Wednesday, junior will be taking the PSAT, and seniors will have their mandatory senior meeting following the first two periods. The Sadie Hawkins Dance will be held on Wednesday evening from 8:00pm -10:00pm. On Thursday, teachers will be working on our accreditation process. There is no school Thursday or Friday. Enjoy a wonderful fall break!

We want to wish Mr. Ron Hill the best as he moves onto a new teaching opportunity. Mr. Hill has been a positive influence on our students for 13 years here at Judge Memorial. Thank you Ron for providing the care and support for our students. Our new teacher, Ms. Eve Grenlie, will be working with Mr. Hill to create a smooth transition. We look forward to welcoming Ms. Grenlie into our Judge Memorial community.

I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.

Faithfully Yours,

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

We are entering the Thirtieth Week of Ordinary Time. In this week’s readings we hear Jesus compare the Kingdom of God to a tiny mustard seed. This small little package has the ability to grow into something magnificent. The reading may be a reminder of our potential. Small deeds, small gestures, kind words, can also blossom into something larger than ourselves.

Thursday is the Feast of Saints Simon and Jude

A big thank you to Jerry Burchett for leading our PSAT testing today. This is no easy task with the juggling of schedules and proctors. Thank you to Joan Jensen who met today with all of our seniors to go over the timeline for graduation. Each student received a packet of information. If you have a senior, please take a look at the timeline and the packet.

Last week brought to a close our girl’s soccer season. Thank you to Coach Nelson for your guidance throughout the year.

Next Wednesday we will welcome elementary school students for our Musical Matinee. We will also hold our Arts at Judge assembly on the same day. On Thursday night we welcome everyone to a Haunted Evening in the Learning Commons. Mrs. Oles opens the library for a scary movie and some great food. Last year’s movie still haunts me just a bit.

I hope you all enjoy a long four-day weekend. I’m hoping to breath some fresh air and catch a few fish.

Grace and peace,

Patrick Lambert
Principal

Amani Jammoul, Class of 2016, was selected to participate with “Music In Common” (http://www.musicincommon.org), a nonprofit organization that aims to strengthen, empower, educate, and connect communities through the universal language of music. Amani spent two days in September, with seven other participants, discussing different global concerns and issues. Their ideas culminated in an original composition titled, "ReHuminization”. They performed their song in front of a standing-room only crowd. Bulldog Broadcast Judge Parent Email: October 27, 2016

A Letter from Principal Patrick Lambert:

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

We are entering the Thirty-First Week of Ordinary Time. Next week we will read the story of the vertically challenged tax collector, Zacchaeus, climbing a tree to get a better view of Jesus. As his perspective changes so do all of the others who had judged him as an immoral person. Jesus embraces him and Zacchaeus repents for his wrongdoings.

As we move through this week we celebrate the Commemoration of All the Faithfully Departed. We will be praying for all those that we have loved and lost through the years. These losses are held deeply in our hearts and we pray for the repose of their souls.

Tuesday is the Solemnity of All Saints
Wednesday is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls)
Friday is the Memorial of St. Charles Borromeo

We will celebrate Mass on Tuesday for the Solemnity of All Saints. All are welcome to join. On Thursday and Friday our sophomores will be participating in their school retreat.

Our theatre department is pleased to announce the opening of our musical, “In the Heights” which will run November 4, 5, 6, 11, and 12. Please join us for this incredible show!

Last week brought to a close our cross-country season and our football season. Thank you to Coach Heideman for an incredible cross-country season. Thank you to Coach Cordova for your guidance in leading our football team.

I wish you all a peaceful week ahead.

AMDG,

Patrick Lambert

A big “shout out” to all who participated in Wednesday’s Arts Celebration assembly at Judge. Judge Memorial instructors, Darin Hathaway, Nathan Shaw and Marjoris Regus, directed performances that showcased our hard-working performing art students. Although there were many outstanding moments, two are highlighted in the YouTube links: JM Dance Company performing “Thriller” and Judge Men’s Dance performing “This Is Halloween”

Congratulations to our Judge girls’ volleyball team! They finished 4th in our region for the season. They will go on to represent region 6, 4A, in the state tournament Nov. 3 & 5. Spike it to ‘em Bulldogs!

Luke Puskedra, Class of 2008 who placed fourth at the Marathon Trials, finished 19th at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Oct. 8. Luke was featured on Let’sRun.com in an online article titled “The Comeback: How Luke Puskedra Bounced Back from 4th Place at the Olympic Trials and His Daughter’s Cancer Diagnosis to Prepare for Sunday’s Chicago Marathon” By Jonathan Gault on October 5, 2016.

Bulldog Broadcast Judge Parent Email: November 3, 2016

To our Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friends and Families,

We are entering the Thirty-Second Week of Ordinary Time. In the Gospel reading on Monday, Jesus describes how many times we should forgive our brothers in one day. I grew up with two brothers. I chuckle thinking about the number of times I had the opportunity to ask for forgiveness or had the chance to forgive. It was an endless cycle. I feel fortunate that my brothers must have been listening to this particular Gospel reading.

Wednesday is the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome
Thursday is the Memorial of Saint Leo the Great
Friday is the Memorial of Saint Martin of Tours
Saturday is the Memorial of Saint Josaphat

Our theatre department is pleased to announce the opening of our musical, “In the Heights” which will run November 4, 5, 6, 11, and 12. Please join us for this incredible show! Thank you to our incredible performers, dancers, singers, and musicians for making this a show to remember.

There is no school on Friday. This is a professional development day for the teachers. As this workday falls on Veterans Day we will not have the chance to pray as a school for our veterans. Please join me in saying a prayer for all of our veterans and their family members.

Help us, dear God, to see your face in every Veteran we encounter. Guide us as we imagine new ways to support Veterans and their families. Bring healing and peace to all who have been wounded physically, mentally and spiritually during wartime. Help us bring your saving grace to heal the invisible wounds of war. We ask this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.

I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.

Grace and Peace,

Patrick Lambert

Principal Lambert's Prayer After Election: November 9, 2016

$

Good afternoon to our teachers, parents, and all members of our Judge Memorial community,

This morning we prayed as a school for our community both locally and abroad. I have included the statement I made for the student body along with the prayer for unity.

Good morning students. Last night brought a conclusion to a long, hard-fought, and exhausting election season. This election seemed to be uniquely brutal at times. As the results continue to be recorded it is increasingly clear that people around the country felt passionately about both candidates.

This is a reminder to all of us to see the humanity in one another. As a community it is difficult to move forward in a positive direction when we villainize the other side. Let us be the example to the country as to how well we can treat all members in our society.

There is a beautiful message in the environmental saying, "Think Globally, Act Locally." This saying rings true in our political system. In following Mahatma Gandhi’s words, we can be the change that we want to see in the world.

So as we begin our day, let us treat one another with compassion. Let us make a goal to enter into dialogue with people of opposing views while showing them the love they deserve. Each one of you is loved and has the ability to share that love with those around you.

Let us pray:

Eternal Father,
We praise you for sending your Son
to be one of us and to save us.
Look upon your people with mercy,
for we are divided in so many ways.
Give us the Spirit of Jesus
to make us one in love.

We ask this gift, loving Father,
though Christ our Lord.
Amen

Peace to you,

Patrick Lambert
